Regional Access Program (RAP)
People living in the CHOICE region are disproportionately uninsured and
low-income. We estimate that there are 29,576 low income people without insurance (about
one in five of whom are children). This lack of access to affordable prevention and
early intervention contributes to the poor health of the region and increases
health care costs when people's conditions reach the point where they must
receive more costly emergency care or hospitalization.
The RAP coordinates with community-based organizations within Grays Harbor,
Mason, Lewis, Thurston and Pacific counties to increase the number of people
with health insurance and reduce nonfinancial barriers to primary care services.
For those wanting information about this program, a toll-free hotline has been
established. The number is (1-800-981-2123, or Spanish 1-888-493-8397).
Over the next two years we will continue to:
- Reach people without health insurance or who are under-insured to inform
them of their options
- Undertake initiatives to reduce the number of uninsured families
- Identify and reduce access barriers
- Educate consumers new to managed care on how to navigate the system
- Coordinate the Statewide Health Insurance Benefit Advisor (SHIBA) HelpLine
in Thurston, Mason and Lewis counties.
