Denny Heck, Sherri McDonald, Kristen West Chosen as Distinguished Leaders
for 2004

Heck, co-founder and former president of Television Washington, Sherri
McDonald, director of Thurston County Health and Social Services, and
Kristen West, executive director of the CHOICE Regional Health Network, will
be honored for their leadership excellence at Leadership Thurston County’s
(LTC) third annual Distinguished Leader Awards Banquet. The banquet will be
held on Tuesday, February 3, at Saint Martin’s College Worthington Center
beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Heck will be honored for his leadership and vision in creating TVW, a
television station that has provided citizens of our state with
gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Washington State Legislature, as well as full
coverage of all cases argued before the Washington State Supreme Court.
Acclaimed as the premier state-oriented public television station in the
U.S. and recipient of national awards, TVW was founded on Heck’s vision of a
partnership between state government, the private sector, the communications
industry and TVW.
 Sherri McDonald and Kristen West will be honored in tandem for their
combined initiative and inspiration in championing accessible heath care
delivery for our community, particularly for the disadvantaged. Working
across all lines and jurisdictions, their mutual aim has been to improve the
health status of people living in Thurston and adjacent counties. Together
they are credited with weaving a network of caring cooperation among
individual physicians, dentists, nurses, and numerous health care
organizations, and for exploring innovative means to address the health
concerns of low-income residents.
The Distinguished Leader Awards Banquet will include a special guest
appearance by Linda Buckner, founding LTC Chair, as well as a social, live
music, no-host bar serving local Dick’s Brewing Company ales and wine
selections from Hoodsport Winery, a multi-media presentation, and dinner
featuring Port demi glace beef tenderloin, ratatouille crusted salmon, wild
mushroom risotto, salad and dessert.
