Local organization receives Washington State Hospital Association 2001 Health Leadership Award.
October 12, 2001 – CHOICE Regional Health Network, a local nonprofit organization, received the Washington State Hospital Association’s (WSHA) Health Leadership Award for 2001 for demonstrated leadership. Each year the WSHA’s Governing Boards Committee honors organizations based in Washington that have made significant contributions serving their communities’ broader health needs.
CHOICE was honored at the WSHA Annual Meeting at the Bell Harbor Conference Center in Seattle October 12th. “It would be more accurate to describe this year’s recipient as a multi-community organization. CHOICE is comprised of hospitals, health departments, physicians and community based organizations from five counties. Over a six-year period, they’ve accomplished great things. A few examples include: connecting more than 11,000 uninsured residents to needed health care, educating and advocating for the vulnerable populations of diabetic residents, convening teams to study unintentional childhood deaths and making recommendations to reduce these incidents. By far the most important contribution the consortium brought was leveraging scarce resources to dramatically improve access to
quality care.” Stated Marcel Loh, Chair WSHA and CEO Swedish Hospital, Providence Campus during the award ceremony.
“CHOICE has been very effective in connecting uninsured to health coverage and reducing uncompensated care for providers.” Said Scott Bond, Administrator, Providence St. Peter Hospital. “We applaud CHOICE’s achievements.”
“It’s only through the collective efforts of many stakeholders, staff and volunteers that we can make a difference in our community,” said West.
